The future is bright for our community:

After nearly four decades of serving the Texas Panhandle, The Panhandle AIDS Support Organization (PASO) is proud to announce it is changing its name to Panhandle Assistance & Support Organization (PASO). The new name honors the organization’s history and its continued evolution to meet the needs of the community.

Founded in 1987, PASO has been a trusted source of compassion, advocacy, and life-saving support for individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS. While that mission remains at the heart of the organization, PASO’s services have expanded to include prevention of HIV transmission, HIV/AIDS support, case management, housing and utility assistance, healthcare navigation, and other essential support services that help people live healthier, more stable lives.

Medical advancements have transformed HIV into a manageable chronic condition, and PASO’s work has grown to address the broader challenges that affect overall health and quality of life. The name Panhandle Assistance & Support Organization more accurately reflects this expanded mission and removes the misconception that the organization only serves people with advanced AIDS.

This change is about making sure people feel comfortable reaching out to us. It’s for our clients now and in the future. The organization wants anyone who needs help, to know that they are welcome here, without fear, stigma, or hesitation.

The name change does not alter PASO’s longstanding commitment to people living with HIV/AIDS. It affirms the organization’s belief that everyone deserves dignity, access to care, and support without barriers. PASO will continue providing HIV/AIDS-specific services, advocating for people living with HIV, and honoring the legacy of those lost and those served since the organization’s founding. At the same time, the new name positions PASO to strengthen partnerships, expand access to services, and reach more individuals who may benefit from its programs.

PASO remains deeply connected to the community that built it and continues to honor its legacy while looking ahead to the future.
